Catching up

Wow last week was one of the busiest weeks I have had in a long time.  I was really stressing out about my first wedding to shoot so I went on Craigslist and posted an add that I was looking for a couple to do a shoot with in the locations I would be using for the wedding.  After about 10 to 20 minutes of the add being on I had to take it off as I was inundated with responses.  I set up two different couples one for Wen and the other for Thur.  The wedding rehearse was Fri, with the wedding to fallow that Sat.

Thanks to my wife, who sent a message to a friend that is an amazing photographer who has done a couple weddings, I now had a partner for the wedding and a future partner for other wedding to come.  Shiloh (my new partner) actually came up to the shoot on Wen and we had a blast with the couple.

These are from the shoot on 10/20/10

These are from the shoot I did by my self on Thursday 10/21/10

Both couples were absolutely amazing each with there different challenges and learning experiences.

The rehearsal was a great thing to go to as I got to see how much of a nightmare the lighting was going to be. I have only done things that don't move in these kind of settings so it was great to get some test shots.  After the rehearsal dinner Shiloh and I stopped and took some pictures form Alika

Moving forward

Well I had the meeting with couple and her step mom over the past weekend,  it went very well I am more excited than ever to do this wedding after seeing the location and the couple,  It is going to be beautiful.

However while there I realized how old and outdated my Flash is, so after a weekend of stressing out about what I am going to do, I broke down and picked up an new updated flash. The Nikon SB-600.

The wedding is Oct 23,  I am so glad I got invited to the rehearsal to do a little more looking and testing the new flash on site.

Day one with the blog

Most of you that will actually read this blog will more than likely be family and the one or two friends I have, but I figured what the heck why not.
This is basically going to be a journal of my journey to becoming a professional and world renowned photographer.  I am shooting high with my goals, but I do believe I can do it.
I really don’t know how to start one of these of how to operate them but I am a quick study, so bare with me.

I have always loved art, I just never thought I would get into photography like I have.  I really got the taste for it when I went to France about 2 years ago.  I told myself I was not going to go there with some cheep point and Shoot camera, so I went out a bought a Nikon D40.  (Outstanding beginner camera) even thought it wasn’t very big as far as Pixels go, it still took pictures beyond my expectations, and the funny thing is that most of those shots are still some of my favorites.
Photography has really grown my appreciation for pretty much everything, and has taught my eye to see things form different perspectives and angles.  Especially for the everyday things that in the past I didn’t even know existed, even thought I have driven or walked by it every day.

I have had a lot of people I’ve talked to ask me about the name Diamond Cactus.  It is nothing I can take credit for, it is my father’s brand and name of his Saddle Shop.  I figured this is a way to carry on the name.

So up to this day I have done a few little things with my Photography.  I have gotten my work displayed it two different location, Smart Eats in Mill Creek WA, and then a Boarders in Tacoma WA.  As far as jobs go I did a Photo shoot for a family in Tumwater WA, here are a couple of photos from that shoot.

I have been published on one of the leading news channels websites for a story they covered that day.
(This was an accident that happened here in Seattle. The guy they are carrying was inside of building that has the dust for cement and was cleaning it with a tractor and when he hit the wall it collapsed. There was so much concrete outside, like 3 feet all over the whole area was covered in concrete dust. This picture actually made it on the King5 web site. This happened DEC 12 2008)

Another one of my shots I donated to the LiveStrong foundation to use however they want.  I got a real nice letter from the Person in charge of all the media and advertising for the foundation, so I was pretty proud that day.

I have been published two years in a row now in the PMA Annual Report (Pacific Maritime Association) which is distributed all over the Pacific Northwest.

I will have to say that my favorite subject has been my little girl.

As of this summer I have combined my passion of photography with my love of cars.  I have gone to a couple of car shows and took some pictures; my favorite part is when you find an owner of the car that loves telling you all about his baby and starts opening doors and showing you all the little details.

So what is next for me is a lot of learning and a couple of weddings.  I am pretty nervous about the weddings, but I am also very excited as I remember how amazing mine was, and I want to make sure these couples never forget a thing.  I don’t have the exact dates yet but I will keep you all posted on everything.

WOW I wrote more than I thought.
God Bless and see you all soon.
